More driving, today. We got up around 7 rather than 6, which was nice, but we still had to drag kids to breakfast. Audrey and Emma both love the waffles many hotels allow you to make. They were happy with that. Jak did not want anything to do with going down to breakfast, but after I required it, he ate three muffin sandwiches. Jak took over driving duties and drove us out of Oklahoma City.
On to Amarillo. We thought there would be some cool places to eat in Amarillo, and I'm sure there are. We couldn't find them, though. After wandering around one-way streets downtown and not seeing anything we found welcoming, we played at a park, ate the lunchables from our cooler, and took a break to stretch our legs. After that, it was on to Dumas, TX for a quick supply stop.
Dumas outfitted us with more gas, more ice, and a window shade to help Emma see her psp.
As we clipped the northeastern corner of New Mexico, we took a quick vote to see if anyone wanted to revisit Capulin Volcano, one of the highlights of our 2007 trip. The kids were in, so up we went. We didn't spend long, but it was long enough to realize that Mississippi's elevation made us wusses. We hiked a little, took in the sites, and got a picture in almost the same place as last year. It was then on to Colorado.
It was a pleasure for all of us to see buttes and mesas, then mountains, as we entered Colorado. We were originally going to go to Colorado Springs, but realized that nearly all the hotels were booked full. So we decided to cut an hour or so off the drive and stay in Pueblo tonight. We were able to take Jak to Chipotle since he's been craving a good burrito since he first heard that we were travelling. Pueblo is having a hot-rod convention or something this weekend, so these hotels are filling up, too. But the Cambria Suites (which I had never heard of) is quite nice and gives us plenty of room for Jak to watch TV in a separate area from Audrey and Emma. And it has my favorite feature in hotels. I can jack my computer into the wall from the desk and the TV receives the input. Audrey and Emma swam from 9:30 to 11:30 while Jak explored and worked out in the exercise room. Now we'll see if anyone gets up in the morning. Off to bed.
