Day Three: Carlsbad Caverns to Santa Fe

Saturday, June 2nd, 2007

Today was going to be a good day, and it was. Rather than drive and drive, we were going to spend the first half of the day playing and exploring at Carlsbad Caverns. It was marvelous to go to bed knowing there were no alarms and we would simply wake up when we awoke. We didn't have to be to the ticket office to pick up our tour tickets until 10:30am so no big deal. I still woke up first at about 7:30 and Audrey followed pretty quickly.

We took pictures throughout the day with each person's favorite desert plant:

Day Two: Dallas to Carlsbad Caverns

Friday, June 1st, 2007

Today we didn't take any pictures. We mostly just drove. Other than that, we ate lunch, which did not merit pictures; and we went to watch the bats, where cameras weren't allowed. Apologies. Perhaps I'll take a picture of my bag of sunflower seeds just to splash some color on the page.

Day One: Madison to Dallas

Thursday, May 31st, 2007

We got started about a half hour late, but not nearly as late as we could have. Everything went well except for the expected hitch of Emma running around in her underwear after being asked to get a shirt on about five times. Once that was done, we were on our way.

American Innovation Stagnation

The title isn't completely accurate. Innovation is going on. But we need to rethink our patent system. The system was invented to encourage innovation. The idea that an innovator would be guaranteed a period of time that he/she could have a monopoly on the technology goes against the ideas that competition is essential. But it was a positive development for innovation because it provided a guarantee that innovation would be protected and rewarded. It went without saying that this innovation would make it to market. That's the whole point, right?

What's With The Bushies?

I'd like to thank George Bush for his polarizing effect on our country. I, obviously, don't mean to thank him sincerely; but I do want to point out the good that has come of his incompetence and his abrasive ideology. In so many ways, Bush has been the boiling water that causes the frog to react in the analogy. If he'd slowly usurped power and been mildly ideological and just a little incompetent, people would get a little frustrated and probably just not vote. The warm water calming the frog.
